Alpine closing ceremony instead of Viehscheid in Kleinwalsertal

Due to the massive onset of winter in the past few days, most of the alpine pastures have had to bring their animals down to the valley early, meaning that the Viehscheid in Kleinwalsertal cannot take place as usual this year. In order to celebrate the end of the alpine summer in style, alpine herdsmen, farmers, locals and valley guests are invited to the “Alpabschlussfeier” next Thursday, September 19, at the Scheidplatz at the Breitachbrücke in Riezlern.  As in previous years, visitors can expect a marquee with food and drink, live music with the “Bergspatzen” and a farmers' and grocers' market from 12.00 to 19.00. In addition, Gerhard Hilbrand, who has been an Alpine shepherd for many years, will report on the farming and Alpine economy in Kleinwalertal in his usual manner. A picture presentation will show impressions from the current alpine summer and previous alpine cattle drives.
